This course is a practical and theory training course over 2 day designed for boat users who have completed their RMDL and/or Safe Powerboat Handling Course with QMTS or who have some basic skills in operating a Recreational Powerboat

The course covers in detail:

  • Theory
    • Basic Rope Work
    • Collision Regulations
    • Safety Equipment
    • Weather & Tides
    • Basic Navigation & Passage Planning
    • Night Navigation

(Please Note: Night Navigation is only covered in theory – boat users doing the Master Powerboat Operators Course will be doing some Practical Night Navigation)

  • Practical
    • Safety Briefing
    • Prepare and run a basic passage plan
    • Identification of navigation marks
    • Application of Collision Regulations

Course Location:

  • Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron – 578 Royal Esplanade, Manly – 4179

Course Structure:

  • The course will run over two full days (0900- 1200 & 1300 – 1600 each day)
    • The Practical Training will be conducted in the QMTS vessel (Joe Duck a 5.5m RIB in 2D Commercial Registration)

Course Cost:

  • $400 per person (Note: there is a maximum of 5 persons in each course)

Course Dates:

  • Courses will be conducted on the second weekend of each month (commencing August) – weather permitting
