This course is an advanced practical and theory training course run over 5 days and designed for experienced powerboat operators wishing to enhance their current skills

The course covers in detail:

  • Theory
    • Basic Diesel Engine Trouble Shooting and Marine Electrics
    • Collision Regulations including Lights, Shapes and Sounds
    • Emergency Procedures including Fire, Collision and Person Overboard
    • VHF Radios and other communication equipment
    • Radar and other electronic equipment
    • Advanced Navigation & Passage Planning
    • Night Navigation
  • Practical
    • Safety Briefing
    • Prepare and run a basic passage plan including a night passage
    • Identification of navigation marks at night
    • Application of Collision Regulations at night
    • Review of manoeuvring

Course Location:

  • Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron – 578 Royal Esplanade, Manly – 4179

Course Structure:

  • The course will be run over five full days
    • 3 Saturdays (Theory) and a full week-end covering the practical components
    • The Practical Training will be conducted on a QMTS vessel or may be able to be conducted on your own vessel
    • Course Cost:
  • $500 per person (Note: there is a maximum of 5 persons in each course)
